The STAR Center for Learning mission is to prepare students academically and socially through short-term intervention programs to become successful, productive citizens in their perspective communities in an ever-changing global society.
The Right Way Club
We live in a time marked by rapid change. All of us are faced with the challenge of adjusting to a world that is no longer as predictable and secure as it once was, and for children, growing up is more difficult than ever before.
The Right way is a group approach that will be offered to all short term students. It is an intervention that will address decision making skills, goal setting, self acceptance, peer relations, feelings and problem solving.
Through dedicated efforts and participation, students will find that academics will also improve because of new and improved ways to handle problematic situations.
The Gentlemen's Club
The Gentlemen's Club was formed as a personal empowerment program for young men. Participants are led through the values, beliefs, strategies, and techniques needed to foster a school climate and culture (or a community-based program) that gives male students hope, and allows them to become engaged in an educational process. Participants analyze the 40 units contained in the curriculum and how they are holistically integrated to change student's attitudes towards learning and the learning process.
Club members will participate in various activities that will "bend" their minds requiring them to use reasoning, logic, and probability. In order to achieve success, members will learn to follow directions, instructions, and/or rules through games, puzzles, and other activities.
